In1938 a Winifrede De bois Shrosbree was living in England and working in the bursars office at Abinger hill school where there exists 23 items of correspondence [PP/30/1/1 ] to her. Later correspondence reminds her that her library boock is overdue !
We have a death reference for 60yr old Winifred in 1940 in Winchester [2c-286] there also appears to be Three children John b possibly 1902[1c-309].Winifred b1918-d1922 [3a-524] aged 4 and Ann.
Who is she, why is she in England? Was she in India ,when did she return
Of Albert Thomas De bois Shrosbree there is little or no trace , but where did the name come from ?. We cannot be sure but ,but is it a coincidence that in 1891 George and Susan[ah] Shrosbree had A William de Bois and his family as neighbours ? although at this stage the two Shrobree do not appear to be directly related. Albert appears to have adopted the grandiose De bois into his name to elevate his status the question is when . Did he do so before he went to India ?
If you have any details of this enigmatic family member please share them with us .Peter M

Albert de bois Shrosbee married Gertrude Eleanor Winifred Rhoda Langman. His name was originally Albert de vere Shrosbee but he changed as de bois sounded better (according to My Father Philip Lawrence Langman of Kent)There were no natural born children but 2 adopted named John and Anne. The Shrosbee estate was deeded by Will to Philip John Langman 1882 to 1949 and on his death to Lillian Langman(nee Cooper) his wife.
I said deeded to Philip John Langman when I should have said entrusted as in PJL was a trustee, the trusts were dissolved when the children reached 21, and Lillian Langman was not a trustee. end of correction
I am pleased to inform you that A De Bois Shrosbree was the chief valuer of the Calcutta Improvement Trust, from 1912 and was in the the position till I suppose late twenties.
Update:- It would appear that the two children upon obtaining their majority (21 years old) after inheriting their trust entitlement emigrated to the USA, however I have not yet been able to fully verify this but the ships passenger logs I have seen do indicate this action.
Please look up this entry for his death in 1939:

Sorry, the link wasn't accepted by Blogger. The notice appeared in THE LONDON GAZETTE, 13 March 1942, p. 1189
Albert de bois Shrosbree published a thesis on the state of buildings in Calcutta (Kolkata) and was a member of the precursor of the Architects society, He was at some point rewarded with a silver medal by the society, sadly now missing. He received a presentation book inscribed to him upon his graduation (in my possession). In addition he was an accomplished musician and conductor. I have the details and will post at a later date but am in the midst of moving house. I have the original trustee documents and accounts of his children who would have enjoyed a significant boost to their financial standing due to ADBS efforts.
If any direct descendants care to contact me I can share the documents I Have.
